An invitation to develop your voice through photography.

Creative Approach is a series for those looking to broaden their understanding of photography and deepen their ability to communicate with it. From the iPhone to 35mm film to the DSLRs, all are welcome. Your tools are not the limiting factor of your photographic ability. This 6 part series develops your creative approach to photography through the photographic genres of documentary, self-portrait, portrait, and landscape. Learn to cultivate your curiosity with us.

Session Outline:

  • Session 1: Creativity and Vision – An Introduction to how we see, the process of creating meaning, and ideas surrounding creativity.
  • Session 2: Scavenger Hunt – Documentary assignment critique. Looking at how we interpret images and develop visual literacy.
  • Session 3: Multiple Personalities – Self Portrait assignment critique with an emphasis on understanding the psychology in depicting people and ways we build identity.
  • Session 4: Lost Letters – Portrait assignment critique. Looking at the double portrait and building on psychology in depiction.
  • Session 5: The Dimensions of Space – Landscape Assignment Critique, seeing space and understanding the choices made in depicting land.
  • Session 6: Loose Threads – Final Presentations, a look at how we create projects, the ways they change and next steps in sustaining them. Woo hoo!
