Creative night photography after dark is a mystery to many. We’ve figured it out! Learn how to photograph stars moving romantically in the sky, change a scene through creatively adding light, or build drama by integrating star trails and light painting. You’ll make pictures that are truly stellar!

Joshua Tree Photo Excursion: There’s something awe inspiring about the desert night sky. Come make images in this stark, captivating environment. We’ll arrive in the afternoon to scout and plan our shots (or you can arrive earlier to shoot Joshua Tree landscapes). We’ll go to work at dusk and shoot until the early hours. You can camp out or drive to a nearby hotel. It will be loads of fun and we’ll make some truly spectacular photos.

Details:
• During the day: Scouting, post processing and maybe sleeping and at night: Star trails & light painting!
• Includes: location for photographing, “How-To Prep Class” and onsite instruction.
• Does not include: Transportation, meals, accommodations (we will be 30 minutes from the town of Joshua Tree if you wish to stay at a hotel) and entrance fees.

How-To Prep Class
Learn about the equipment and techniques needed to make creative star trail and night sky photographs. Star trails require long exposures, a sturdy tripod, lockable remote release, specialized software and a spark of imagination. Come learn how to make these captivating images.

Price: How-To Class ONLY (no trip to Joshua Tree): $49 per person

To bring: Camera, tripod, camping gear, remote shutter release – full supply list to be e-mailed after registration
Post Production Class
Process your Star Trails night photography in the digital darkroom hands-on with a CPA educator. Together we will review basic steps to process your images into brilliant, creative star trail images using free software as well as Photoshop and other scripts and techniques. We will review making minor adjustments both before and after your final product.
