Session 1: Light

Monday, March 1 , 5 PM PST

Join Jide Alakija in this exciting online class as he starts with an introduction into story telling. You’ll learn how to briefly layout an outline to find situations where you can get interesting and unique stories to capture! Learn different techniques on how to use this light to affect the mood and feeling.

Session 2: Composition

Monday, March 8 , 5 PM PST

Learning to identify the most important elements and features are essential in figuring out composition. The arrangement of these elements can either make of break a story. Find out how to manage composition by either moving elements and subjects around or by figuring out the best viewpoint is discussed!

Session 3: Moment

Monday, March 15 , 5 PM PST

By using the concepts learnt from the first two sessions, that is setting up the best light and then working out the appropriate composition, we now delve into the process of nailing the image to tell the story in the most impactful way! That being capturing the final element, the moment. In this class you’ll learn the key techniques most effective to meet the overall objective, telling the most inspirational story!


About Jide Alakija


Jide Alakija is an internationally renowned photographer with over 15 years experience in shooting multicultural weddings, documentaries and editorial campaigns. Jide’s assignments have taken him across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the U.S.

Regularly piquing the interest of international icons and A-list celebrities through his captivating eye, Jide’s recent clients include Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka; hip hop artist and producer, J.Cole; acclaimed novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie; and Didier Drogba, former Chelsea F.C. soccer player.

Art collectors and galleries around the world currently showcase his work. Most recently, the Smithsonian Institute shortlisted ‘Invisible Cities No. 1’ for inclusion in the Smithsonian Institute Collection.

Keen to share his extensive expertise with the next generation, Alakija hosts photography workshops around the world and runs various mentoring programs in West Africa for photography students.

Passionate about African modern art, Jide is the co-owner of TAFETA, a private art dealership specializing in 20th century and contemporary African art. Based in London, the gallery regularly showcases at some of the word’s premier art events including Art Basel and The Hamptons Art Fair; and represents renowned names like Yinka Shonibare, MBE on the African continent.
